Fluoride supplements are recommended to prevent tooth decay in kids >6mo in areas where the drinking water is low in fluoride. It is typically used as a liquid, pill, or paste by mouth. Fluoride has also been used to Tx a # of bone diseases

Methods
  • Water fluoridation, which ranges from 0.6-0.8ppm depending on location, which is equivalent to 1 drop of F- diluted into 50L of water
  • Toothpaste
    • Colgate Total Original TP, which has Na 0.32% w/w, equiv to 1,450 ppm F
  • Mouth rinses
  • Gels/foams
    • Germiphene Gel 7, which has 2% NaF to supply 1% F- ion in a thixotropic gel base
  • Varnish, including
    • MI Varnish, which also contains 2% recaldent CPP-ACP, and has 5% NaF. CPP-ACP can also be separately purchased as Recaldent and Tooth Mousse
  • Lozenges
